Sunak waters down net zero commitments

Michael Gove warns of public backlash at UK plan to slash carbon emissions.

The prime minister has cast some doubt over whether the government would keep its policy of banning new petrol and diesel car sales by 2030. What we are hearing that the date is likely to be pushed back to 2035.

During  Michael Gove's  morning round of broadcast interviews Tuesday, Gove appeared to make a firm commitment that particular policy is here to stay.

"We're committed to maintaining our policy of ensuring that by 2030 there are no new petrol and diesel cars being sold," Gove told the Today program.

"I'm sure there are some people who would like to change that policy, I understand. But that policy remains," he added.

The latest news from the prime minister conficts with Michael Gove. It seems like both the public and motor dealers are going to be left once again to pick up the damage that these ever ending changing in policies create.

The EV car market has taken a battering over used values over recent months and as we grew closer to 2030 it did appear that things were levelling off - no doubt this latest news can only have a negative impact on used EV car values.

Industry at all levels from manufacturers, motor dealers and charging networks will see all their business plan models negatively impacted. As soon as Sunak makes his formal speech on the potential delay we will update this news, for now we just need to wait and see!
